Changes in the IUCN database 2025-2 compared to the Shark Database Version 2025-1: Two new species have been added: Etmopterus lii (Li's lantern Shark) and Squalus hima (Indian Spurdog). Scymnodon plunketi (Largespine Velvet Shark or Plunket's shark) was discovered to be a misidentification of Scymnodon macracanthus and will be listed as such in future.
40 shark species were reassessed in 2025.
The annual scientific conference 2025 of the European Elasmobranch Association will be held in Rotterdam, Netherlands, from 29-31st of October 2025.
With fascinating images, the film tells the story of young researcher Sofia, who studies the largest sharks, whale sharks, in the Galapagos Islands.
The film is 76 minutes long and will be shown in English with German subtitles. There will be plenty of opportunity to discuss the film during the reception afterwards.
